I worked on the new Manchester United website and native iOS/android app for their 670 million global fan following.
I collaborated closely with researchers, UX designers, developers, and content teams to modernise the club’s digital presence. This included delivering a long-overdue redesign of their website, and contributing to the design of their first-ever native mobile app.
The overall goal was to bring the match day experience and exclusive content directly to fans’ fingertips around the world, increasing engagement and elevating Manchester United’s digital presence to compete with rivals.
Working from a wealth of user research and fan personas, I was able to collaborate with UX designers to establish wireframes, content models and grid logic that would lay the foundations for a scalable card-based UI.
Each card was meticulously designed to suit specific content types, from live match updates and player stats to editorial articles and video highlights, while ensuring optimal performance across all devices.
These cards were just the start of a scalable design system that would grow with the club’s evolving content needs, enabling faster iteration, visual consistency, and a more intuitive fan experience across web and mobile platforms.
Just days after launch, the Manchester United Official app reached number one in the App Store's sports category download charts in 68 markets around the world. The app was also top ten within the sports category in 123 markets.
The release of the Manchester United Official app and our revamped website allows the club to better engage with our fans within the digital world; creating new opportunities to communicate with our global fanbase. The core project team has done a fantastic job, which is a testament to the fact that both Manchester United and HCL are leaders in their respective fields
